By now you’ve probably heard me mention “The Group” once or twice.  To me, The Group is my family.  It’s literally the group of families that I grew up with, but really they’re way more than that.  Over the years, the group has grown.  We’ve added boyfriends, girlfriends, husbands, wives, and a handful of grandkids.  A few weeks ago I went to Houston, TX to visit two of our littlest group members, Drew and Sydney — and their parents, too!

It was a jam packed weekend for Syd’s 2nd birthday, filled with a trip to the zoo, gymnastics, way too many cupcakes and one crazy awesome Minnie Mouse Birthday cake.  Syd taught me some baby sign language (I think she’s pretty genius — What?  She’s also my God kid!  I’m allowed to brag) and I taught her how to say “Hi, Suz!”  Sounds more like “Hi, Dude!” but I’ll take that! 

Anyways, you know I had to squeeze in a super quick photo session with these two before I left the lone star state.  Enjoy!

Day 3 – tour to Connemara. Absolutely gorgeous.  Good thing I took a tour because if I drove I for one probably wouldn’t be sitting here blogging (just can’t get used to being on the other side of the road) and two I would have I would have pulled off on the side of the road every 5 minutes to take photos.  Probably would have taken 3 days.

Picked up some good Irish slang ( “Crack” or “Craic” in Irish meaning fun/enjoyable.  i.e. “we were having a crack of a time!”).  Had a fun last night in Galway  and now I’m in Doolin for Beth & OB’s Wedding!

Day 2 update: absolutely beautiful day… blue skies.  Walked all over.

Procured a beautiful wool blanket that’s on it’s way to Boston as we speak (leave it to Suz to over pack AND buy the largest souvenir I could find!), 2 scarves, a souvenir for “mum” and some Irish candy.  I had the largest baked potato I’ve ever seen for lunch (seriously, that spud was on steroids), watched the sunset on Galway Bay while listening to an Irishman play “Galway Bay” (see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UD73lxnaPCE) on his guitar (pretty fitting, right?), and for good measure I even went for a run in an effort to tire me out and get on Irish time (pause for reaction)…  still not on Irish time.   

Getting used to hearing words like “lad,” “cheers” and “champion.”

…..and yes, I’ve managed to pick up a wee Irish accent.

Off to Connemara & Doolin today!!

Good morning from Galway!

So far it’s been an amazing trip!  Although I’m only here for a few days alone before I head to Doolin for Beth & OB’s wedding, I was thinking on the plane how I’ve actually never traveled alone.  Like, without anyone waiting for me on the other end of my flight.  I was a bit nervous about it, but all I’ve heard is how nice everyone is in Ireland… and they were right.  So far, I got a free ride from Shannon to Galway (Macdara, if you’re reading this somehow — Thank you!), met two ladies from Brighton, MA last night (small world, right?), was asked if I was Rachel McAdams (no, but thank you) and got a free pint of Guinness from Shane at Tig Coili.  Actually, my autograph may or may not be on a piece of paper above the bar there… just in case I end up being a famous actress someday.

Clearly I am way better BEHIND the camera… But, I had to take a little self portrait for you, anyway! (this was literally right after I got off the plane… so, no judgements please!)

This has truly been a labor of love.  As is the case with most worthwhile things in life, it took a bit longer than anticipated but was 100% worth all the hard work.  So, before I start loading up this brand new blog with work, I had to stop and give a big virtual high five to everyone who helped make the new home of Suzanna March Photography just as I imagined it.

I was recently reading about Steve Jobs, who said “Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it’s worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.”

In the spirit of that quote the first high five has to go to Karrie of Karrie Pyke Designs for doing a killer job on the new logo and blog design.  Somehow she turned all my random ideas and this crazy pinterest board into a simple, streamlined design that still speaks to my work and personality.

Second high five goes to Sean over at Global Web Strategies, Inc. for doing all of the programing and being super professional and accommodating all my crazy requests, frantic phone calls and last minute changes!  Thanks, Sean!

Third high five goes to my girl Molly of Molly Anne Photography for taking the new photos of me on the Suz page and totally killing it and making me feel like a super model.  And yes, they were shot in a parking garage… obviously! (Also the photo credit for the two header photos for the Suz Page go to Shannon Grant Photography and Steph Stevens Photo, respectively)

Fourth high five goes the the incredibly amazing and talented Christy of Makeup Artistry by Christy for making me look FLAWLESS and coming all the way out to Boston out last minute to do my make up!  Brides… do yourself a favor and call Christy for your wedding!

Last virtual high five (and hug) goes to my mom, who was such a big help throughout this whole process.  Love you, mom!
