Mackenzie & Eric’s Golden, CO Wedding | Colorado Wedding Photography

It’s not unusual that I become friends with my brides. I think that’s what makes this job so fun, getting to know new friends during the most exciting time of their lives. But, this case is, in fact, a little unusual. That’s because Mackenzie is already a friend. Actually, one of my good friends. Really, one of my best ones. One of the few girls I see as more like a sister than a best friend. She has made me laugh so hard I cried, she has opened her home to me, been my biggest fan, a shoulder to cry on and a voice of reason. She stood up for me as one of my bridesmaids at our wedding and I couldn’t think of a better way to spend her wedding day than documenting it for her and Eric.

I’m going to let the images tell the rest of this story…. here’s a few of my many, many, MANY favorites from Mackenzie & Eric’s Golden, CO wedding!

Katie & Joe | Fort Point Engagement Photography

Fort Point is one of my absolute favorite places in Boston to shoot (and not only because I get to go to Flour while I’m there!). I’ve shot engagement sessions in this area before and it’s always a really good exercise to find a new perspective on the same locations. Well, all I can say is that Katie & Joe made this process really easy! They were naturals in front of the camera and were up for ALL my crazy ideas…what a fun afternoon!

Let’s kick it off with what might be my favorite engagement photo (maybe ever?!)….

Gina & Liam’s Airplane Hangar Engagement | Boston Engagement Photography

A location like this has been on my shoot wishlist for a while, so I was so happy when I happened to stumbled upon it and even happier that Gina & Liam decided to go for it with this “not-your-average” location for their engagement session.

I know they were both super nervous about being in front of the camera, but their images tell a completely different story!

Here are a few of my favorites. I could not get enough of the beautiful light inside this hangar… Love, love, love…

Big thanks for this shoot go out to: Beth (who still needs a blog!) for being an awesome assistant as always, Ace (below) for giving us the run of his property and teaching us all about airplanes (I owe you one, Ace!), and to his very generous client for actually letting us in his plane for a bit! Lindsey & Tony’s Red Rocks Engagement Session Part II | Denver, CO Engagement Photography

This engagement session was just what I needed to get me excited and inspired before my 2012 weddings started. I absolutely loved hanging out with Lindsey and Tony in the Red Rocks! Even in a mini blizzard the colors and scenery was like NOTHING we have here in the northeast. If I lived in Colorado, I’m pretty sure I’d shoot here every week if I could… just sayin’!

Julie | Rustic Boston Wear it Again Session

I think you’ve all heard me talk about how much I love “Wear it Again” session, right? Call them what you will… Trash the Dress, Rock the Frock, Day After Session. Whatever you call it, there is nothing like putting on your dress one last time before it gets cleaned, preserved and packed away in a big box where you can only see one little sliver of it through a cellophane window.

So, when Julie emailed me about shooting a “wear it again” session, I couldn’t say yes fast enough!

This session embodied everything I love about getting a bride back in her wedding dress one last time. Her look was relaxed and natural but still elegant and the result was a totally different look from her bridal portraits on her wedding day. And, aside from a little splashing around in the river, her dress was really not much dirtier than it was the day after her wedding! See, you don’t need to “trash” your dress… but, you should wear it again!

Drew & Sydney | Connecticut Family Photography

My little goddaughter, Sydney, will be one next week… can you even believe that!? I doubt you guys will even recognize Sydney & Drew from their last SMP shoot. Every time you turn around they seem to be a few inches taller. I think we have a few future volleyballers on our hands.

I love to spend time with these two little munchkins and it was so fun to catch up with them (and their parents, of course) over the Christmas holiday! Here’s a few of my favorites from our mini portrait session.

Syd was not too happy with her god mama… it was a little cold outside.

But, she seemed to snap out of it pretty quickly!

I think Drew should send these shots into Crewcuts, don’t you think!?

Meghan & Derek’s Topsfield Wedding | Boston Wedding Photography

2011 was an amazing year. So, so many beautiful weddings and awesome clients who I am happy to now call friends. Meghan and Derek are the epitome of this. They are truly two of the most sincere, kind, and gracious people I have ever had the pleasure of working with, and I’m so happy to be able to call them friends. And what better way to end 2011 wedding season then spending a Saturday with friends?

So, funny story about this first look. Derek and his dad are sort of photography buffs. So, when I arrived with Meghan I got to run over and say hi to Derek and his dad first. And as I set up for this shot I hear Derek’s dad yelling from the other end “this light is PERFECT!” What can I say? When the man’s right, he’s right. It was perfect. And that, my friends, is the moment I knew I loved Derek’s dad!! Haha, thanks for being so awesome, Mr. Falvey!

Love this shot (above) that Shannon grabbed! My view on the same thing below. Literally I think we shot these frames the exact same second (we’re just good like that!)!

ummm.. hello vanity fair bridal party! I love you!

Okay, you know that I love a good family wedding tradition. And Derek’s family has a great one, (for my college girls out there reading this, this might rival our traditional Boyz II Men sing along). So, I asked Derek to send me the exact story so that I could share it with you guys…. so here’s the deal, straight from our groom:

“Some years ago my grandfather heard a story about weddings in Ireland having a parade of the congregation from the church to the town below for the reception. Frankly, this could have been some kind of cover story…. I cannot speak to the validity of this legend but that’s what my family’s sticking to.

My grandfather, who was a Marine, started arranging the march at weddings of family members years ago after hearing this story. He always started with “When the Saints Go Marching In” and ended with “God Bless America”. It caught on and there are pictures from a number of weddings where he led this march. Then, after a while, he figured why keep it in the family and began taking a fold up flag in the trunk of his car to non-family weddings. I’ve heard there have been marches at weddings where he may have only known a couple of people at the whole event! “Shy” is not a term generally found in the dictionary for our family.”

So, there you have it… and here are few images Derek sent me to prove it!

In both pictures, Dereck’s grandfather, Jake, is leading the charge with the flag. Jake passed away two summers ago. And this was the first family wedding since his passing, and the first wedding where he didn’t lead the march. So, I don’t need to tell you what a special moment it was for Derek’s grandmother (below), and of course their whole family. I actually didn’t even know the story as it was all happening, and you could just feel the emotion in the room (I actually almost cried myself… I know, not surprising, you all know I cry at pretty much every wedding!).

M + D, Congratulations! It was an honor to capture your wedding day for you. Thank you so much for having me along! p.s. Anyway I can get you back in front of the camera when I’m in Ohio for Christmas this year?? Could be epic… just sayin’!
